Get to know me

Alexslopes

Hello, and thanks for taking a moment to learn a little bit about me.

My name is Alex and I’ve worked as a content strategist for two decades, in a variety of marketing and communication roles that involved web content management, intranet development, editorial strategy, internal business relations, executive messaging, TV network publicity and social media outreach.

I currently work in the financial services industry as a Content Manager for OneMain Financial — the largest personal installment loan company in the U.S., with the responsibility of managing the development process of our financial wellness content to engage our 2.3+ million existing customers as well as attract new business.

Prior to that I worked at ESPN as Director, Internal Communications, and was responsible for producing and distributing corporate information to all 8,000+ employees across the organization by leveraging a variety of sources and technology to meet the needs of the internal community. I’ve spoken numerous times on these topics at various conferences, as well as to a number of different business units within ESPN, Disney and elsewhere.

I was graduated from Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) with a B.S. in Business Management & Organization, earned an Masters of Business Administration degree from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), with a specialization in Music Industry at Berkley College of Music. As a student, I was honored with the President’s Citation Award in recognition of  contributions beyond my degree; and as an alumnus, I served on the CCSU Alumni Board of Directors for six years.

In my professional career, I’m honored to have been selected to participate in the highly selective “Disney Way 1” Leadership program, be nominated for the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) Leadership Pipeline Program, participate in the “ESPN Dimensions” Leadership program, and invited to attend a NAMIC Leadership Seminar. I was also chosen to join the IABC Heritage Region committee and help with their annual conference planning.

In my spare time, I like to coach and I’m also an avid guitar player… I’ve been doing a little blogging about my music journey here.  A native of Connecticut, I was a proud nutmegger for most of my life until recently picking up to move with my wife and two kids down to Maryland.
